Waaaaay back in my college days, I was inspired by other sprite comics such as That's My Sonic, Get Blue Spheres, and Final Fantasy Sonic. So I took it upon myself to create one of my own, using the Pokemon anime as the template for the story and substituting Sonic the Hedgehog characters into the roles of Ash, Brock, Misty, and so on. I initially made it through about 110 pages before moving on, and lost all but the first fifty from web site and hard drive crashes. After showing off this old comic on another forum a few years ago I was convinced to start making it again, and now publish it on a weekly basis. You can read the whole thing over at my Deviantart, or wait for me to copy it all to here too! SEASON 1: SONIC'S POKEMON ADVENTURE #1: The madness begins! Sonic has a new stalker... and Uncle Chuck thinks he may be hallucinating. #2: Introducing... fads. #3: Tails likes pie. #4: The one where we find out what Pikachu can actually do... #5: Sonic makes his first attempt at catching a Pokemon. #6: Attempt #2 doesn't go much better! #7: The professional Sonic stalker shows Pikachu how it's done. #8: Amy finds a way around that pesky restraining order Sonic's had on her! #9: Here we get a two-for one deal - we see both the legendary Pokemon that cameos in that first Pokemon episode, and we got the "Who's that Pokemon?" bit they used to have on regularly. Also, I never turn down a chance to make fun of someone's name. #10: Finally! Getting around to explaining some sort of plot! As well as including one of the music clips from the original series, wheee!

#11: I felt that the Team Robot trademark motto needed a little tweaking... also, do you like Metal Sonic's long, luscious Jessie-locks? #12: The first blast-off in the comic, ever! #13: Ahh, more exposition. I'm not quite sure why we decided on a limbo contest... possibly because I found the sprites and thought they were hilarious. Chansey being a big pervert was definitely CG's idea though. XD #14: The first of several cameo appearances! #15: Covering up a big hole I made in the first comics when I forgot to give Sonic a Pokedex... heh, whoops.. #16: To paraphrase Ian Flynn, "I enjoy the pleasant breeze that comes through the shattered fourth wall." XD #17: As you'll come to see in future comics, I mixed things up a little in regards to what Pokemon each character would get. Sonic, Amy and Brock's stand-in all stay pretty true to the cast of Pokemon, with maybe a few differences. Shadow though? Completely different story. It made pretty good sense to me - the coolest character would raise the coolest Pokemon, right? Although even the best trainer can sometimes make a mistake... #18: It's okay Sonic, we've all been there before. Even Batman! #19: Sonic's first Pokemon capture and Amy's fear of bugs reflect those of the show. Whether she also hates carrots and peppers is up in the air. #20: Rookie Ash, just like rookie Sonic, just can't seem to make the connection that birds eat bugs.

#21: My girlfriend at the time of making this comic had three great loves (four, if you include me) - Tails, bug Pokemon, and pie. If you've been paying attention, you'll see that I put all of that together in Tails' character. XD #22: Thought someone was missing last time when Team Robot showed up? Fear not, he was only waiting for the right moment to pounce! #23: Repetitive motto is repetitive motto is repetitive motto is repetitive motto is... #24: As you can see, I'm making some high-quality mature comedy here... #25: Tails saves the day the way Ash did, by covering Team Robot in white gunk with Caterpie's string shot. We also see the first random appearance of Donkey Kong, who aspires to be the next Kanto Idol. #26: Unfortunately, it sometimes takes a little more than encouragement to make your Pokemon evolve... #27: I didn't want to get bogged down by the Samurai episode, so I just went for a quick evolution to reflect what happened instead. #28: A showdown between Sonic and Knuckles? Well of course I had to make that take place in the Hidden Palace! As in the show, Pikachu wasn't able to beat Onix until it got good and wet. #29: A lot of jokes get made by fans about just why Brock never opens his eyes. I thought the best way to reflect this was with an excrutiating and crippling injury. #30: With the business of blinding Knuckles out of the way, it's time to introduce a couple of real people. Namely myself and... remember when I said my then-girlfriend had a Tails obsession?

#31: So these guys are sprites of real people. KGJ is my former internet persona, taking the place of Elite Four dragon trainer Lance. KG is Bugsy, whose gym didn't make it into the comic as I never got to the Johto Journeys. Ditto with traP, who took the place of Fawkner, the flying gym leader. As for CG... #32: Misty surprised exactly no-one in the audience when she announced she was a gym leader (well, as long as they'd played the games). Amy's reveal should be equally unsurprising. #33: CG designed Amy recolours to stand in for Misty's sisters Violet, Lily and Daisy. #34: Amy points out what I think is a very important question never asked in the show - why can Brock's pet rock fly?!? #35: In both the Indigo League and Johto Journeys, Ash managed to capture all 3 starter Pokemon. I thought it would be better balanced to divide them amongst the cast. And this was before I saw any of the Advanced episodes, I might add. #trendsetting #36: Well, at least he got a water type... it'll be a fair while before he finds a fire type to replace Charmander. #37: Oh look, another Johto Pokemon cameo! This one's Pokedex entry reveals that it will accidentally shock itself whenever it uses electric attacks - how convenient! #38: The S. S. Anne saga was some of my favourite episodes of the first series... but they seemed a bit too complicated to parody in sprite comic format. Especially since I couldn't find any ship backgrounds. Either that, or I couldn't think of any good jokes. #39: I hadn't shown them in the comic yet, but I wanted an excuse to show that Tails, Amy and Shadow had other Pokemon that they caught before their first appearances. Also, we establish the running gag of Bulbasaur making... gags. Dirty ones. Amy doesn't seem to approve. #40: Brock's long-running crush on Officer Jenny and Nurse Joy is well known, but my choice of Constable Remmington for the role complicates matters a bit. Fortunately, Knuckles' blindness helps solve that problem! The 'spritosis' is a reference to me losing my Pokemon sprite sheet at the time, which made making the comic a problem. Fortunately, I managed to find a new one.

#41: I'm not quite sure why I let Shadow have an Aerodactyl this early in the story. I really should have waited until we got to the fossilised Pokemon episode and introduction of Togepi, but I was operating under the mandate of, "Shadow has an Aerodactyl now. Aerodactyls are cool." YES, I know that reference makes no sense in 2002! Leave me alone! >_< #42: Misty gets a Horsea which is later left at Cerulean Gym and never evolves into a Kingdra? Not on my watch! #43: Ash has a habit of letting a lot of his best Pokemon go: Butterfree, Primeape, Pidgeot, Charizard, Squirtle... and that's all within the first three seasons! I make it clear in this comic that I will not stand for any of that nonsense! #44: Were you wondering which type of Pokemon CG chose to specialise in? Well, those of you who are familiar with Saffron City's gym ought to be able to figure it out... #45: Sonic got off lightly. In the show, Ash and friends were briefly imprisoned in a doll's house, and later Misty and Brock were turned into dolls themselves. #46: Cameo writer appearance! MWAHAHAHAHAAAAAA!!! #47: This comic marked the introduction of another friend from back in the day, Alejandro, whom I made the leader of the fire gym on Cinnabar Island. Considering he had conspiracy theories a-plenty regarding the number 47, this seemed the right time for his debut! #48: -in a lightbulb? (No, I'm not answering that) #49: Okay, I know that I said earlier that I wouldn't let Sonic give away his Pokemon, but the exception here is that technically Ash never bothered to catch Haunter, so it wasn't really his own Pokemon. #50: Celebrating the milestone with another song from, "Pikachu's Jukebox." And I think that'll do it for today! Come back tomorrow, and I'll post season 2. (Or if you don't want to wait, check out my Deviantart!)

Hello, friendly viewers of SPA! Pretty sure that's still the series title, with the seasons renamed. SPX, maybe, for Sonic's Pokemon [X]?
Anyway, I do some sprite/effects work and get a cameo or two later on. See you there!

Hi guys, just a friendly admin edit has happened to this thread, because the images were huge and took forever! And after trying forever(5ish minutes) to find a spoiler tag that worked for images, {Click for spoiler}{Spoiler}This one doesn't work for images
I gave up and just added an image resizer plugin instead, personally I find it obnoxious. HOWEVER! Comma. I feel it is necessary because loading this page was a paaaaaaiiiiiin. Just making sure you guys knows what's what. If any complaints PM me, I will consider finding an alternative. Carry on. ^^ Edit: Oh, and if you want to see the full size image, just click the thing, it says that above the images, but maybe you skimmed that. K done now. Have fun. ^^ bye bye

Yes, thanks Retro. Sorry to cause so much frustration and bewilderment. I'll copy more comics here when I have the chance, but right now Mario and Luigi: Dream Team Bros is holding me captive.

Alright, I think it's about time I updated this again. First of all, if you've been following the comic elsewhere on the web, the latest episode (#154) has been up on my Deviantart page for the last few days. If you're still playing catch up, then it's time for season 2! SEASON 2 - SONIC'S POKEMON ADVENTURE: THE NEXT EVOLUTION To celebrate the return of the comic after a ten year hiatus, I thought something special was called for. Thus the first comic of the new era was pencilled, inked, and coloured by my own hand. Continuing the Indigo League saga from where we left off after the Saffron City Gym battle, we come to the first encounter with a certain fighting type Pokemon. As Tails seems to have realised, this was a remake of my original Page #51 (from ten years ago). As mentioned at the beginning of this thread, I lost my original copies of all pages I did of page 51 and onwards from back in the day, so I wanted to make a clean break from the previous continuity. I thought that if there were any fans from the old days who found the new version of the comic, that this might help prevent any confusion. It was also a nod to Ian Flynn's work on Archie's Sonic the Hedgehog comic, specifically the beginning of his 'Sonic Genesis' arc. The effects for this one were done by Shonic Coolhog. Shonic Coolhog also did the effects here, to help close the Primeape saga. I was originally going to make Charmy the Celadon City gym leader, but the way Ash got kicked out of the gym for being a perfume-hating boy kinda necessitated a female gym leader. Hence: Saffron. Her sprites were made my MidnightPrime. You may notice there's a subtle Team Robot presence in this comic. If you look even closer, you'll see a cameo by Werekitty119! This was to be paid off in the next comic. Shonic Coolhog did the effects again here. I had originally planned for Werekitty's appearance to be a one-off, as a birthday present for my biggest fan. As you'll see, it didn't take long for me to change my mind and scheme up a more important role for her to play than Eggman's stalker... This one combined the introductory episodes of both Vulpix and Psyduck, as well as introducing Hermoso into the comic. Pretty ambitious for four panels - perhaps a bit too much. Geodude was something of an oddball in the actual Pokemon anime. For starters, he could fly. What was that about? And why in God's name would Brock enter him in a FIGHTING Pokemon tournament? ...well, like Amy said. Once again, I flip the anime the bird and tell them that releasing Pokemon is bad!

#61: I ran a contest on my Deviantart journal for readers to submit the best Pokemon-related "Yo mama" joke they could create, with the winning entry to be rewarded by being used in the comic. That winning joke, as seen above, came from our glorious overlord - The Coolness OVERLORD!! I also introduced another Bumble here - Ziggyfin - but changed things up a bit by making them a Pokemon. As usual, ShonicCoolhog was in charge of effects. #62: ShonicCoolhog really outdid himself with the effects this time. I think this is some of his best work on SPA! #63: I had originally planned to only use the anime as a basis for the Power Plant arc, but then I remembered that in Pokemon Red and Blue, that Power Plant was home to a certain legendary Pokemon. With that in mind, I thought it would be a crime to not include them. #64: This is one of those cases where I remade one of the original lost comics from last decade, almost word for word. I did include the Crunchie bar as a new feature though, to pay off in the next comic. Raziel's sprites were made by Chaos Controller. #65: Another remake of a lost comic - as a matter of fact, the entire arc based on "Dig Those Diglett!" were remakes of my original comics. The twist this time was that unlike the anime, Koffing and Ekans actually had a half-decent reason to evolve. #66: Because who doesn't love Whack-a-Diglett? #67: I'm pleased to say I had the fans utterly baffled as to where I was going with the Eggman fangirls subplot. If anyone did manage to figure out what I had planned for Werekitty119 and Hermoso, they didn't mention it (at least not to me! ^_^). #68: Pretty classy background I chose for the Fuchsia City Gym, wasn't it? #69: What with Koga being a ninja master, this was a pretty obvious gym leader to cast. #70: Remembering that Tails is the cast replacement for Tracey, and that Tracey already had a Venonat when he first appeared in the Orange Islands episodes, this seemed looked a good time to let Tails catch one.

#71: After making the audience wait three weeks for the gym battle to actually begin, I thought I'd stretch the comic out longer than usual to ten panels. #72: ...what did you think she was going to say to Werekitty119? O:) #73: This was a 'lost' comic for months after its intended date to be published. Werekitty was originally going to sprite this comic as a special guest artist to celebrate my thread at Bumbleking getting over 10,000 views. Unfortunately, Werekitty suffered major computer problems just at that time and was unable to make it. Considering that the Safari Zone episode of the Pokemon anime is a 'lost' episode too, I decided to leave it in limbo for awhile, hopeful that Werekitty would one day still be able to make it. Sadly, that day never came. #74: I had to keep this one in hiding too, otherwise it would have spoiled the content of the previous episode. #75: The fangirls subplot is starting to become clear at this point. I'd dropped subtle hints earlier regarding Ziggyfin, but now the effects of Eggman's ooze has finally been revealed. The fact that it doesn't appear to have effected Werekitty at all shows that there's still more to come though... #76: Gotta love a derp-faced Pikachu. #77: This was based on another 'lost' episode of the show, which got banned after children watching it had seizures. To this day, Porygon and its evolutions have never featured in another episode. #78: This one was based on one of the most well known and traumatic episodes of the Indigo League: 'Pikachu's Goodbye.' #79: Even though Charmander went to Shadow rather than Sonic, I decided to keep the plot point of him turning into a jerk after he evolved. #80: Considering how often Jigglypuff showed up in the anime, I wonder if I should have used them more regularly? Or at least its counterpart, Donkey Kong.

#81: Another one where I combined two episodes - the debuts of Charizard and Togepi. #82: Since Sonic didn't get a Charizard, I thought he should have at least ONE evolved starter. #83: Ahh, Lickitung. Somehow not as fun as the Pokemon it was ultimately replaced with. This is another one of my original comic remakes. #84: The conclusion of Lickitung's debut was a remake too. The last panel with the clone of Werekitty119 was new material though... has it become obvious where I'm going with this yet? #85: There were a number of episodes in the Indigo League where Team Ash had a fourth human in the party, a photographer named Todd. He even got his own game on the Nintendo 64 and came back for an encore in Johto League Champions, so I thought I'd better include him at least once. #86: For the other Team Robot, I thought it would be best to use actual robots. Orbot and Cubot (whose sprites came from GeovanaVeira) seemed the most amusing choice. #87: As said above, I had considered making SHRRN A FWOOSH! the gym leader for Cinnabar Island. But having her and Frostria as spectators probably works better anyway. #88: The first in a tradition of taking attack names literally! #89: Rhydon seems an odd choice for a fire type gym leader, but why not? ShonicCoolhog made a comeback to do the effects for this comic. #90: ShonicCoolhog also did the effects for this one, the conclusion of the gym battle.

#91: This episode of the anime saw Misty dressing as a mermaid and giving her strongest Pokemon to her sisters. Guess which one I chose to use in my comic? #92: With the Cinnabar Island gym battle done, it's time to get to the business of leading in to the first movie - about the only one that was actually intricately linked into the episodes of the anime at the time. ShonicCoolhog did the effects for this one, and Werekitty119 made the sprites for Mr. Glowy-Bum. #93: I have no idea what possessed Giovanni to leave Jessie, James and Meowth in charge of his gym. It has to be the stupidest mistake we've seen him make in the anime. #94: As expected, this wasn't a terribly challenging gym battle. Shonic Coolhog gets credit for the awesome effects on his final outing for SPA. #95: Explosions are fun! #96: Kicking off the movie's plot, we get the awesomeness of Mewtwo! Yaaay! Hermoso took over visual effects this time. #97: A lot of people missed this due to how pixelly they are, but the clones are wearing Star Wars clone trooper helmets. Hermoso did the effects from this one too. #98: At last, the mutated fangirl sub plot mystery has been completely revealed! #99: Hermoso made good use out of all the pretty colours here! #100: The Pokemon tears thing is one of the weirdest things to ever appear in the anime, and is generally hailed as lame by the fans. OF COURSE I had to use it in my version. Werekitty took over the role of SFX coordinator as of this issue, and the Kalos starter sprites were made by Kyle-Dove. That's it for season 2 - come back next time for season 3, and the path to the Pokemon League!
