This is for discussing the cartoons and anime of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise. The upcoming Sonic Boom cartoon has its own thread, so if you want to discuss it, go here.
I actually enjoyed many of the Sonic cartoons. I found enjoyment out of all three of the Sonic cartoons by DiC, known as Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, SatAM and Sonic Underground. Each one has their own unique charm to them, and it is upsetting that the last one's comic conclusion was delayed until further notice (and at this point, who know if it'll ever be published?). However, while they all had nice animation for their time, there's was a moment in SatAM that stuck out to me; Sonic's nose disappearing for no apparent reason. Other than that, I don't remember too many errors.
I also enjoyed the OVA, Sonic the Hedgehog: the Movie. I borrowed it from a friend of mine, and I watched and enjoyed it. ADV Film's English dub was pretty good, and the characters were all entertaining. I also liked how the animation was reminiscent of Sonic CD's opening. All in all, it was an enjoyable experience.
However, I'm not gonna lie, I'm not a big fan of Sonic X. It didn't start off too bad, with Sonic saving Cream, and finding his friends, but as it went on, Chris Thorndyke started taking up screentime to where I, like many others, wondered if Chris was the actual main character. The fact that they tried to play the "lonely rich kid" card with a character that was established to have friends from even before Sonic and friends arrived and that he had a loving family didn't help. Causing Amy not to show how much she cared for Shadow in the SA2 adaptation didn't help. However, it had nice animation, and I did think Tails' crush on Cosmo was better handled than his crush on Fiona in the comic, even if the fact that a fox falling in love with a plant girl is a tad ridiculous in description. So all in all, it had its ups and downs. But hey, if you liked Sonic X, that's fine too. Though now that I think of it, I think that maybe I should have watched the JP version, since the 4kids dub was heavily edited. Maybe I can truly judge it after watching the JP version.
Then there's Sonic: Night of the Werehog. It was a short, enjoyable little CGI cartoon, though admittedly, I just watched this one. The animation wasn't bad, and, for what it was, it was pretty good, though admittedly, it wasn't much, either. Still, it was made to promote Sonic Unleashed, and I feel it didn't do a bad job at it.
So, which ones did you watch? Which ones did you enjoy? Did you enjoy any of them? Feel free to discuss it here.
